Description

The Old Inn House is a cottage, originally a public house, likely dating from the late 18th century with alterations in the 19th century. It is constructed of painted rendered stone rubble and cob, with a half-hipped thatched roof. The building features an axial brick stack and a brick stack at the left end, topped with distinctive toothed capping. The original layout comprised two rooms, with a nearly central entrance passage, and a depth of one and a half rooms. A small, heated kitchen was located behind the left-hand room, while a scullery/pantry, later used as a bar, was situated behind the right-hand room. The entrance passage is deliberately cranked to the left, leading to a straight-run staircase added in the 19th century, positioned between the two rear rooms. The exterior has two storeys and a single window range with 4-paned sash windows throughout. A 20th-century door replaces the original. There is a second entrance at the right end, which features a two-window range of 4-paned sash windows. Internally, 19th-century joinery remains, although fireplaces have been rebuilt in the 20th century.
