Description
Huxleigh and Mayville are two adjoining cottages located in Kings Nympton, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. They are constructed from painted rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a half-hipped thatch roof featuring end brick stacks. Each cottage consists of two rooms, with the outer rooms being larger. The left end cottage, Huxleigh, has a central passage leading to a staircase at the rear of the right-hand room, while the left-hand cottage has direct access into its right-hand room. There are lean-tos at each end, covered with corrugated iron roofs.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a four-window range. The late 19th century or early 20th century windows are intact, consisting of two-light casements with six panes per light. Huxleigh has a 20th-century gabled porch, while Mayville has a lean-to brick porch with a 19th-century plank inner door. Inside, much of the 19th-century joinery remains intact.
