Description

Bidgoods is a farmhouse dating to around 1700. It is constructed of painted rendered stone rubble and cob, with a hipped slate roof and an axial rendered stack. The plan is unusual, featuring a three-room and lobby entry layout. A large stack originally heated the parlour on the right, while the hall and kitchen occupied the left. A narrow, unheated room is situated at the lower end of the left side. A staircase is located at the rear of the stack, with access from the hall/kitchen. The parlour has been divided axially towards the rear to create a small rear room. A two-storey outshut, likely dating to the 19th century, and a lean-to are attached to the left end.

The exterior is two storeys high, with a three-window range. The windows are modern, consisting of three-light casements. A gabled porch in an early 20th century style with an ogee lintel has been added to the front.

The interior remains largely unspoilt. A good original moulded plaster cornice is present in the parlour. The hall/kitchen features scratch-moulded joists, a thin chamfered bressumer, and a fireplace lintel. A 19th-century integral cupboard is built into the front wall. Original joinery is intact, including a complete set of raised and fielded panelled doors and one three-plank door leading to the upper-storey chambers. The chamber above the hall contains a rare, integral hanging cupboard in a plank and muntin style with scratch-moulded planks. The roof structure comprises pegged A-frame trusses with lapped pegged collars, and the rafters have been replaced in the 20th century.
