Description

Huxford Farmhouse is a farmhouse that includes a lofted outbuilding attached at the right end. It likely has a 17th-century core but was largely remodeled and extended, probably in the late 18th century. The building is constructed from painted rendered stone rubble and cob, with the rear unrendered. It has a corrugated asbestos roof featuring gable end brick stacks and a brick shaft for a lateral stack at the rear.

The farmhouse has a long plan with four sections, including a low 1½ storey outbuilding at the left end, which was converted to form part of the dwelling in the 20th century. The 17th-century core consists of a single large room to the left of a wide entrance hall that contains a staircase running from back to front. The front doorway is now blocked, and a window has been inserted. The late 18th-century range to the right forms the main part of the house, with a slightly higher ridge level and a single large room on each side of the central staircase. The left-hand room is heated by a rear lateral stack, and there is a large lofted outbuilding at the right end.

The exterior features two storeys and a five-window range. The 18th-century range has a symmetrical arrangement with complete 19th-century fenestration, including two three-light casements on each floor flanking two light casements, all with eight panes per light, above a 20th-century door. The 17th-century core to the left has 20th-century fenestration. The outbuilding to the right has a loft door above two plank doors, each with a window opening to the right.

Inside, the farmhouse has been largely altered in the early 20th century, but earlier fireplaces remain concealed behind 20th-century grates. There are no exposed ceiling beams, and while there is no access to the roof, purlins visible over the range at the left end suggest that the 17th-century roof structure may still be intact.
