TAWSTOCK HISCOTT SS 52 NW 3/76 Norwood Cottage and Taylors - Farmhouse

Farmhouse, now divided into 2 occupations; Probably early C17, extended and altered in C20. Rendered stone rubble and cob. Tiled roof with gable ends. Rendered stack at left end with offsets and axial stack, both with tapered caps, and stack at right end. Overall 3-room cross-passage plan with stack backing onto the cross-passage, the 2 houses now divided along its line. Projecting stair turret to rear of hall. ] 2 storeys, 5 window range. C20 fenestration. Blocked cross-passage doorway C20 single storey extensions at left end and to front of Taylors farmhouse, and C20 2 storey extension to rear of Norwood Cottage. Interior Plank and muntin screen between hall and inner room, the muntins hollow moulded on hall side, as is the fireplace lintel. Step stops to chamfered hall ceiling beams, pyramid stops to inner room chamfered ceiling beam. Chamfered surround with scroll stopped durns to doorway to stair turret. Old window bench to 4 hall. Diagonal stops to ceiling beams to lower end and mortices to headrail indicate position of former screen to lower side of cross-passage. Double handed cloam oven doorway and chamfered lintel to fireplace. Roof replaced in C20. |
