Description
Farmhouse. Dating from the early 17th century, with possible origins earlier than that, Pristacott Farmhouse is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, with an asbestos slate roof. A tall, lateral hall stack is located at the front of the building, featuring offsets and a tapered cap, and has been heightened in brick. The original layout was a three-sided rear courtyard plan, although the courtyard is largely infilled with 19th and 20th-century extensions. The front range appears to have originally comprised a hall, heated by a lateral stack at the left end, a through-passage containing a staircase, and an extended lower end. The building is two stories high, with a two-window range on the front. A 19th-century two-light casement window with six panes per light is positioned on the left side. More recent 20th-century windows are on the right. A 20th-century brick porch with a hipped asbestos slate roof is present. A three-light casement window with eight panes per light is on the right, and a 20th-century three-light window is situated at the left end. The interior has not been inspected, but it is known to contain a 17th-century geometrical plasterwork ceiling in the chamber above the hall, reflecting some group value.
