Description
East Woodlands Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of stone rubble and some cob, with the facade rendered. The roofs are covered in asbestos slates, featuring large stone rubble stacks with drips and weatherings to each gable end of the main range, and a similar stack to the rear kitchen wing. The farmhouse has a symmetrical 2-room central stairhall plan at the front, with a kitchen and dairy wing added in the late 17th century to the rear left side, forming an L-shaped plan overall. It is two storeys high, with a three-window front range. The windows are mostly 20th century replacements. A gabled porch with shaped bargeboards was added in the 19th century. Surviving 19th-century windows can be found at the rear of the kitchen wing, which also features a lean-to with a corrugated iron roof on the left side.
Inside, the principal 19th-century joinery, including staircases, remains largely intact. Two of the main rooms were altered in the 20th century. Four trusses, likely original to the building, are present in each range, displaying side-pegged collars and X-apexes. There is no evidence of smoke-blackening.
