Description
Fox Hill Farmhouse is a mid-19th century farmhouse located in Uffculme. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond on a limestone plinth, topped with a hipped slate roof featuring red ridge tiles. The building has a double-depth plan with four rooms, each heated by its own prominent external end stack. The left-hand room has an extension at the rear to accommodate a large kitchen range.
The entrance is off-centre, leading to a hall with stairs at the back. The farmhouse is two storeys high and features a symmetrical front with a four-window range, although the doorway is not centred. The first-floor windows are all 12-pane sashes, mostly with horns, and have lintels at eaves level. The ground floor has a doorway set to the right of centre, which features a double chamfered stone depressed 2-centred arch, with a deeply recessed panelled and half-glazed door. There are two windows to the left and one to the right, all 12-pane horned sashes under depressed moulded stone window arches.
At the rear, there is a three-window range, all sash windows with brick window arches, except for the dairy, which has ventilators. The kitchen projects as a two-storey polygonal bay, also featuring horned sash windows on both floors. A limestone rubble barn adjoins the house on the right. Fox Hill Farmhouse is situated in a prominent position and represents a functional mid-19th century farmhouse that retains a traditional Georgian style, though its interior plan is not centered around a symmetrical doorway and shows some Gothic influences.
