Description

Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the late 18th century, with earlier origins in the rear wing and 19th-century alterations and additions. It features red brick in Flemish bond, with coursed limestone rubble and brick dressings on the rear wing and outshuts, topped with pantile roofs. The building has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a two-room central entrance hall on the south front, a two-room kitchen wing to the rear right, an adjoining outhouse range, and outshuts in the angle.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with three bays and has a symmetrical appearance. A projecting 18th-century flat-roofed porch is supported by fluted Doric pilasters, which carry a plain entablature, moulded cornice, and hood. The entrance features a 20th-century half-glazed panelled door with a fluted surround beneath an original re-set radial fanlight. To the left, there is a 19th-century flat-roofed canted bay window with pilasters, a plain entablature, and a four-pane sash window at the front. To the right, there is another four-pane sash window in a flush wooden architrave with a sill and a stucco cambered arch.

On the first floor, there are similar four-pane sashes, with a narrower window in the centre. The eaves cornice is moulded, and the roof is hipped with end stacks. The right return features French windows beneath an overlight with Gothick glazing. The left return has single-light and two-light sashes with glazing bars in flush wooden architraves beneath rubbed brick cambered arches. The rear range includes hung and sliding sashes with glazing bars, and an attic sliding sash in the gable end with leaded lights. Inside, there are beaded-panel window shutters and doors in architraves, along with moulded cornices.
