Description
The pump and surrounding railed enclosure is a hand water-pump built in the late 19th century for the Nelthorpe Estate. It features a painted cast-iron pump and railings set on an ashlar plinth, with flagstone paving. The enclosure is approximately 2 meters square, with an entrance to the southwest and a central column pump. The round-chamfered plinth has a drain outlet to the east and supports railings with tapered column principals topped with bulb finials at the corners and entrance, along with plain bars and ornate finials above a single top rail. The pump itself has an octagonal column with a moulded base and capital, decorated with fleur-de-lys and roundels in relief. The pump spout is located to the east and features foliate decoration, while a slender curved handle is positioned on the north side, strapped to the column. The pump was not in use at the time of the last survey.
