Description

ST 11 SW UFFCULME 5/139 Rull House - - II Detached house, formerly a farmhouse. Mid C19 remodelling and extension of a house of the C17 or earlier. Roughcast cob on stone footings: gable end and hipped slate roof. Originally a 3-room, through-passage, plan house, the higher end to the right of the passage, extended to the service end by the addition of a Mid C19 cross wing. Hall heated by axial stack backing onto passage; service end heated by axial (formerly end) stack, both with brick shafts. 2 storeys. Exterior: Front: main range of 4-window bays; first floor : 3 windows with 6-pane hornless sash windows. Similar windows to ground floor. Panelled quarter-glazed door to passage, with porch with moulded cornice on panelled posts and pilasters. C19 cross wing with canted bay, all windows as described above. Right-hand end wall rebuilt in brick. Outshut to rear. Interior not inspected. The hall has 3 cross ceiling beams, chamfered, and (probably) unstopped; set in the rear wall in a 4-light window, each light with a depressed arch (details not clearly visible). 1 unstopped axial chamfered ceiling beam to service end. This house could retain an ancient roof and other features.
