Description
Rull House is a detached house that was formerly a farmhouse, originally built in the 17th century or earlier and later remodeled and extended in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings and features a gable end and hipped slate roof. It was originally designed with a three-room, through-passage layout, with the higher end located to the right of the passage. A mid-19th century cross wing was added to extend the service end. The hall is heated by an axial stack that backs onto the passage, while the service end is heated by an axial stack that was formerly at the end, both having brick shafts.
The house is two storeys tall. The front facade has four window bays, with three 6-pane hornless sash windows on the first floor and similar windows on the ground floor. There is a panelled quarter-glazed door leading to the passage, which is sheltered by a porch featuring a moulded cornice on panelled posts and pilasters. The mid-19th century cross wing includes a canted bay, with all windows matching those described above. The right-hand end wall has been rebuilt in brick, and there is an outshut at the rear.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted that the hall features three cross ceiling beams that are chamfered and probably unstopped. Additionally, there is a 4-light window in the rear wall, with each light having a depressed arch, although the details are not clearly visible. There is also one unstopped axial chamfered ceiling beam in the service end. This house may still have an ancient roof and other historical features.
