Description
Waterford Cottage is a detached house, likely built in the early 18th century, with later alterations and additions. It features plastered cob and has a gable end and half-hipped thatched roof. Originally designed as a three-room plan house, the original entrance location is unknown. The two right-hand rooms have been combined into a large room, heated by an end stack, while the left side has an axial stack that heats a smaller room. Both stacks have brick shafts and the house is two storeys high.
The front exterior has a five-window range. On the first floor, all windows are three-light, except for one two-light casement that is slightly lower than the others, with some windows featuring 19th-century casements. The ground floor has four three-light casement windows and two late 20th-century glazed doors. At the rear, there is a pantiled lean-to with two small two-light windows beneath eyebrow eaves.
Inside, the original features have not been well preserved, but the small left-hand room includes a chamfered, unstopped axial ceiling beam, one end of which rests above the fireplace lintel. Other areas have roughly chamfered cross ceiling beams, and the remaining fireplaces also have roughly chamfered lintels.
