Description
Two ranges of linhays form the west and south sides of the farmyard east of Ford Barton. These structures date from the late 19th century and are part of the planned farmyard at Ford Barton. They are built of stone rubble with slate roofs and are arranged in an L shape. The west range faces the threshing barn and has its rear wall backing onto the higher yard. The south range faces south into the lower yard and also backs onto the higher yard, featuring a covered walkway at the rear.
The west range is a large nine-bay lofted linhay, with the right-hand bay enclosed and the other bays open, supported by stout timber posts. There is an entrance through the linhay into the higher yard on the left, and an entrance to the covered walkway behind the south range in the right-hand bay. The south range has a 20th-century addition in the center, with four bays to the left of this addition and five bays to the right. Together, these ranges and the adjoining range of the parish hall form three sides of a large planned farmyard that once included a central dunghouse. The interior of the higher yard, which they enclose, has been altered and includes a 20th-century open-sided structure built against the rear wall of the west range. These linhays have group value with the parish hall range, the threshing barn, Ford House, and Barton House.
