Description

Exe View is a detached house located on Rackenford Road in Tiverton. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and likely has additions on either side. The house features solid rendered walls and a hipped slated roof, with adjacent buildings covered in corrugated iron. There are red brick chimneys on each side wall and at the rear, with upper courses that project to form caps and good square tapered pots with shaped tops.

The plan of the house is double-fronted and double-depth, with a long, low range to the left that is probably a converted outbuilding, and a small lean-to on the right. The exterior is two storeys high, while the buildings on either side are single-storey. The front has three windows, and there was likely a central doorway originally, which now has a single-storey projection in front, probably a later addition. The windows are barred sash types, with six panes per sash, or eight in the outer windows of the second storey. The eaves are deeply projecting. The rear wall, which faces the back road, has four windows with barred sashes.

The house is depicted, complete with the range to the left, on the 1842 tithe map located in the Devon Record Office for Tiverton, Clare Portion. The interior has not been inspected.
