Description

St Mary's Cottage is a detached house located in Tewkesbury, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of painted brick and features a low-pitched hipped slate roof. The building is a simple rectangular shape with two storeys and a three-by-one window arrangement. The main front has a combination of 16-pane, 12-pane, and 16-pane sash windows on the first floor, above a four-pane panelled door that is set beneath a blind fanlight and framed by a pedimented pilaster doorcase.

On the right side, there is a large 16-pane window above a three-light casement with a wooden lintel. The rear of the cottage includes a 16-pane window on the first floor, a large 16-pane window on the ground floor, and an off-centre four-panel fielded door, along with a blocked doorway to the left. The eaves are deep and feature moulded brick dentils, and there is a large central chimney stack.

Inside, the property has been significantly modified. It includes a lateral staircase with stick balusters and a swept handrail, supported by 'Doric' newels. There is a high-level opening above the upper winders that leads to a steep divided staircase, which is mostly hidden by inserted tanks and lagging. This staircase does not correspond to the current layout and likely originates from an earlier structure on the site. At some point, the property seems to have been divided into two smaller residences.
