Description

Little Venn Farmhouse and the adjoining cottage are likely from the mid-18th century. They are constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with rubble stacks that have late 19th and 20th-century brick tops, and a corrugated iron roof that was originally thatch. The southeast-facing structure consists of a two-room cottage with a central stair plan on the left (southwest) and a one-room cottage on the right, both under the same roofline. There are gable end stacks, with the left stack projecting, and an axial stack to the right of the middle room in the cob party wall between the farmhouse and the cottage. The building has two storeys and an overall four-window front featuring mostly late 19th to early 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The farmhouse door is set beneath an early 20th-century trellis porch, while the cottage door is located behind a 20th-century glass-sided porch. The interior has been largely refurbished in the 20th century, which has mostly blocked the fireplaces and boxed in the beams. A large rubble fireplace in the cottage has a plain chamfered oak lintel inscribed on the right end with "WS 17.." - the last numerals are illegible. The roof is inaccessible.
