Description
Shuttern Cottage is a house that was formed from at least two adjoining cottages, likely built in the 18th century and converted around 1970. The structure features plastered cob on rubble footings, with cob and brick stacks, and a thatched roof. It is a two-storey, L-shaped building that adjoins Pump Cottage. The breaks in the roof line and internal cob walls indicate former divisions between properties. There is a large cob stack at the rear of the front block.
The street-facing side has two irregularly spaced 20th-century casements on each floor, along with a secondary door. The long side elevation facing the garden includes the main door, which is sheltered by an open 20th-century porch with a gabled tile roof supported by raking struts. The elevation also features irregular 19th-century casements with glazing bars, mainly concentrated towards the centre and street. A cob garden wall with a pitched pantile top runs along the street from the corner of the house to a plain stone pier. The interior of the house has been significantly altered around 1970. The building is included for its group value.
