Description

Pump Cottage is a house formed from at least three original cottages, dating to the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, and converted into a single dwelling around 1970. The construction is of plastered cob walls with rubble footings, featuring brick and cob stacks and a thatched roof. It is a long, two-storey building extending along the street from Shuttern Cottage to No. 19 The Village. The main entrance is now centrally located under a gabled, thatched roof which incorporates a reset Sun Insurance plaque. The front facade contains five windows of varying sizes, which are 20th-century casements and are roughly balanced around the doorway. There are no windows at the left end. The interior plan is irregular, resulting from the joining together of the original cottages. A garage to the left side features scroll-shaped beams. During conversion work, straight joints in the front cob wall were revealed. The building is included on the list for its group value.
