Description

The summerhouse in the garden of Newton House, which is not listed, dates from the early to mid-19th century and is designed in a rustic Gothic style. It is a nine-sided structure topped with a conical thatched roof, supported by a colonnade of nine rustic oak posts. The exposed timber retains its bark, and pieces of oak bole are used for decorative purposes. The interior features a pointed arch door and two unglazed arched windows, with the walls clad in a vertical herringbone arrangement of halved birch branches that extends into the ceiling. The cobbled floor reflects the herringbone pattern, and there is a similarly styled bench around the rear and a central nine-sided table.
