Description
Reeves House is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century, although it may have an earlier core. It is built of plastered cob or cobble with rubble chimneys, incorporating 19th-century brick chimney shafts, and has a slate roof with red ridge tiles. The house was originally planned with two rooms facing south, featuring a central staircase and a carriageway running through the building on the left (west) side, with a third bedroom above. A rear lateral stack serves the left room, while an end stack serves the right room. The house sits between The White Hart Hotel and Hildon’s Cottages.
The two-storey front has an overall three-window arrangement. The main part of the house has a symmetrical two-window appearance, featuring late 19th-century horned large-pane sashes, seemingly inserted into earlier tripartite window frames. A central pair of four-panel doors with overlights (the left overlight featuring a pattern of glazing bars) has panelled reveals. A flat-roofed 19th-century porch with a panelled soffit and decorated cornice is partially obscured by 20th-century glass infill on the front and sides. The carriageway has 19th-century plank double doors and a horned large-pane sash window to the chamber above. There are flanking stucco-panelled pilasters and a moulded timber eaves cornice. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
