Linhay. Early-mid C17. Stone rubble with some cob; corrugated iron roof, formerly thatch. Plan: originally an open-fronted linhay facing north-east towards Middle Coombe Farmhouse (q.v). Although much of the front has been blocked with stone rubble and weather boarding it is still used as a cow byre with a tallet/hayloft over. The original structure however is well-preserved. Exterior: 7-bay linhay. The crossbeams carrying the tallet/hayloft are roughly soffit-chamfered. At the front they rest on tapering stone rubble posts. Vertical oak posts are set into the front ends of the beams through the narrow tallet and the outer principals of the roof trusses a lap-jointed and pegged onto the posts. This is Alcock's type S2 linhay. The roof is carried on A-frame trusses with pegged dovetail-shaped lap-jointed collars. The roof is gable-ended. The linhay originally extended another 6 bay further right (north-westwards) and most of the stone rubble posts and some of the tallet-hayloft crossbeams still remain. Besides forming part of a quite exceptional group with Middle Coombe Farmhouse (q.v) and its ancillary buildings it is also unusual for a C17 linhay to remain so well- preserved.
