Description
This linhay, located approximately 13 metres south of Burnthouse Farmhouse, dates from the early to mid 19th century. It features exposed red cob on a stone rubble footing, with wall ends made of large, roughly dressed blocks of local conglomerate sandstone. The roof is covered with corrugated iron, which was formerly thatch.
The linhay is open-fronted with five bays, facing south-west towards the farmyard. It has full height timber posts, characteristic of Alcock's linhay type T1. The crossbeams that support the hayloft floor are set into the rear cob wall and tusk-tenoned into the posts, which also support king post trusses. The roof is gable-ended, and the end walls are made of cob. To the left of centre, there is a cob crosswall that extends up to the hayloft. The lower section of the linhay is weatherboarded and features two plank doors with plain strap hinges.
This linhay is part of an attractive group with Burnthouse Farmhouse and the barn.
