Description
Railway Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that was renovated and extended around 1985. It features plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with a stone rubble or cob stack topped with 18th and 19th-century brick, and a thatch roof along with an interlocking tile roof. The cottage has a two-room plan, facing south and backing onto the lane. The larger left room (west) is heated by a gable end stack, while the right room is unheated.
There is a single-storey extension on the right end that is narrower than the main house and set back from the front. The main house is two storeys high. The front has an irregular two-window arrangement with casements from around 1985 that include glazing bars, and a central plank door that is also contemporary. The roof is half-hipped on the right side and gable-ended on the left. The extension features two casements from around 1985 with glazing bars and a contemporary glazed door in between, with a gable-ended roof.
The interior was modernised around 1985. The crossbeam in the right room appears to be a replacement from that time, while the crossbeam in the left room is original, featuring a soffit-chamfered design with scroll stops. The fireplace is blocked, and the roof has not been inspected.
