Description
Coleford Gospel Hall, which may have originally been a house, dates from the late 18th to early 19th century and was converted in the late 19th century. It is constructed of plastered cob and rubble, with a stone rubble stack topped by 19th-century brick and a slate roof. The building serves as a Gospel Hall with meeting rooms above, and there is a stack that serves a small vestry at the left (north) end. The structure is two storeys high and features a three-window front on the first floor, which includes a central late 19th-century horned 16-pane sash window flanked by 20th-century casements that lack glazing bars. Towards the left end, there is a late 19th-century four-panel door with a fanlight above, although the glazing bars are missing. This door is sheltered by a large late 19th-century gabled hood with a slate roof, plain bargeboards, a plain pendant, and a ridge tile with a scrolled finial, supported by heavy shaped brackets. The low-pitched roof extends continuously with the adjoining Cove Cottage to the left and is hipped to the right. The interior has not been inspected. From the front corner of the right end, a high plastered cob wall with slate coping extends southwards along the roadside as far as Rose Cottage and includes a large doorway. The building is included for its group value, and Coleford is noted for being a remarkably unspoilt and picturesque hamlet.
