Description
Sunnybank is likely an 18th-century cottage, probably built on the site of a late 16th-century structure. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with a cob or rubble stack featuring a plastered brick chimney shaft and a thatched roof. The cottage originally had a two-room plan, facing east, with a central staircase and a projecting stack on the left (south) side. Original outbuildings are likely located to the rear.
The front is a balanced two-window façade, updated in the late 19th or early 20th century with casement windows featuring glazing bars and a central 20th-century front door protected by a gabled, thatched porch. The roof is continuous with the adjacent Tudor Cottage and gable-ended to the right. The interior retains little exposed carpentry, although the larger left (south) room features plain, stop-chamfered crossbeams with run-out stops. A party wall shared with Tudor Cottage suggests an earlier building existed on the site, but Sunnybank appears to be a wider, 18th-century rebuild, potentially incorporating some late 16th-century elements. The roof was not inspected. Sunnybank is situated within the remarkably unspoiled and picturesque hamlet of Coleford.
