Description
Pennycott is a 17th-century cottage that has undergone some alterations in the 19th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, featuring a cob stack topped with 19th-century brick. The main house has a thatched roof, while a service outshot at the rear has a corrugated iron roof. The cottage has a one-room plan and a secondary service outshot. The stack is located in the right end party wall, which it shares with the adjoining Corner Cottage. Pennycott is the middle cottage in a row of three, with Homeleigh to the left (northeast) and Corner Cottage to the right. The building is two storeys high and has a two-window front with 20th-century casements that include glazing bars, along with a part-glazed door to the left. The roof is continuous with the adjoining cottages. Inside, the main room features a 17th-century crossbeam that is soffit-chamfered with scroll stops. The contemporary fireplace has plastered sides, but the lintel is obscured. The roof has not been inspected. Pennycott is the center cottage of a row of similar cottages, and Coleford is noted for being a remarkably unspoilt and picturesque hamlet.
