Description
Lake Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse in Halberton. Originally a 3-room plan with a through-passage, it was likely accompanied by a rear wing, but was widened to the rear in the late 18th or 19th century, creating a double-depth plan. The farmhouse is constructed of cob with a stone plinth, and is plastered under a gabled-end slate roof. Internal end stacks are present. It is two storeys high in the 20th century. The windows are mostly 16-pane hornless sash windows, except for a 20th-century unbarred casement in an enlarged opening on the ground floor to the right of the front door. The rear of the house has 19th-century casement windows; four to the first floor and two to the ground floor, alongside two rear doors, and a lean-to conservatory. Inside, the original rear wing retains its fireplace with one surviving ovolo moulded stone jamb. Opposite this is what may have been a screen bench, with deep chamfered cross beams and step stops in that room. A 1-plank and muntin screen, likely originally to the passage but possibly between the parlour and hall, featuring ovolo moulded muntins and a door lintel with a small ovolo moulded panel above, is also present.
