Description
No. 5 Castle Street is a house dating from the 18th century or earlier. It is constructed of stone rubble, which was probably originally covered in stucco, and has a slate roof that is gabled at both ends. The building features two projecting rear lateral stacks. The layout is symmetrical with a single depth plan, consisting of two rooms and a central entrance, along with a rear left outshut.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a three-window front. The central front door is framed by a doorcase with pilasters and a cornice, and there is an additional door, likely from the 20th century, to the right. The ground floor includes a 20th-century window on the left and a four-light casement window on the right, while the first floor has two and three-light casement windows.
Although the interior has not been inspected, it may contain interesting features. No. 5 is situated on a prominent corner site in Castle Street and is part of a group of other listed buildings in the area.
