Description

The Castle is a house, and was formerly an inn, dating from the 18th century or earlier, with a rear outshut likely added around the late 18th or 19th century. It is constructed of colourwashed stone rubble with a slate roof, featuring gabled ends. The building has projecting stacks on the left and right ends, and a central axial stack, all with stone shafts. The original range likely comprises two rooms to the left and one room to the right of a central carriage entrance, which has a timber lintel. The front has an asymmetrical 7-window facade with regular sash windows, mostly containing 16 panes. There are four ground-floor windows. The first-floor windows in the left-hand bay, the second from the left bay, and the fourth from the left bay are blocked or false. The interior was not inspected but may contain features of interest, potentially including early roof trusses. An inspection of the interior might necessitate a revision of the building's dating. The listing also includes circa early/mid 19th century garden railings to the left, featuring spearhead and vase finials.
