Description

Higher Bradley Farmhouse, also known as Foxglove Farm, is an 18th-century farmhouse situated in Tiverton. It is constructed of rendered cob walls with a wheat-reed thatched roof, the end on the left being in poor repair. A brick shaft serves a lateral stack at the rear left. The original layout comprised two rooms: a hall to the left and a smaller, unheated room to the right, with a small lobby entrance and a steep single-flight staircase in between. A rear extension and a 20th-century conservatory at the front have been added later.

The exterior is two storeys and features a buttressed two-window range, with a doorway centrally positioned within the fenestration. The windows are small, with late 19th-century four-pane two-light casements, except for a 20th-century replacement on the ground floor left. A planked door is likely original.

The interior retains the original roof structure, including roughly hewn A-frame trusses, largely concealed by old plaster ceilings. A crossbeam with tongue stops, set back from the ends, and plain joists are present in the hall. The lower-end room also features a plain crossbeam.

The house exemplifies a traditional Devon two-room plan, surviving on a small scale.
