Description
Pynes House is an early 19th-century house with an adjoining coach-house to the west, along with front railings. The house is constructed of plastered cob or rubble, with rubble stacks topped with 19th-century brick and slate roofs. It is a two-room house with a central staircase plan facing the road to the north. The coach-house, which now functions as a garage, has a hayloft above and projects to the right (west).
The house is gable-ended, built on a stone platform and set back slightly from the road. The front has two storeys and originally three windows arranged symmetrically. A central 6-panel door, with the upper pair glazed, is now sheltered by a late 19th-century gabled porch with chamfered posts, brackets at the top, and shaped bargeboards. A late 19th-century bay window with canted sides and horned sashes without glazing bars has disrupted the symmetry on the right side. To the left of the door, and at both sides on the first floor, are 19th-century 2-light 2-pane casements. The central first-floor window is a pointed arch-headed stair window with Gothic glazing bars and a small diamond-pane leaded glass.
A stone platform projects forward to the street and supports low iron railings with plain pointed tops bent back towards the house. The rear elevation features 16-pane sashes. The coach-house is slightly lower than the main house and projects onto the street, featuring a 20th-century garage door, a 19th-century plank door to the left, and a first-floor loading hatch for the former hayloft.
