CHERITON FITZPAINE CHERITON FITZPAINE SS 80 NE 7/23 - Rose Cottage, April Cottage and 26.8.65 Bawn Cottage, (formerly listed as Nos 1 & 2 Hayes Gardens) GV II

Row of 3 adjoining cottages. Late C17, extended in C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings; cob or rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatched roof, replaced with slate on Rose Cottage. 3 contemporary 1 room plan cottages facing west with Rose Cottage at left (north) end, central April Cottage and Bawn Cottage on right (south) end. Bawn Cottage extended in C19 1 room. Shared stacks against rear wall. 2 storeys. Regular 7 window front including a variety of late C19 and C20 casements most with glazing bars and including a 12-pane ground floor sash to Rose Cottage. Doors lie behind C20 porches. First floor windows to April and Bawn Cottages have thatched eyebrows over. Roof is hipped each end. Rose Cottage has chamfered axial beam with straight cut stops and diagonal corner fireplace with plain oak lintel and curving pentan. In April Cottage blocked diagonal corner fireplace and plain chamfered crossbeam. Interior of Bawn Cottage not inspected.
