Description
Honeysuckle Cottage is a house, likely dating from the late 17th century, with extensions added in the 19th century. The original structure is built with plastered cob on rubble footings, featuring a rubble stack topped with 19th-century brick and a slate roof, originally thatched. It originally comprised two rooms facing west, with a 19th-century extension added to the south end. A large projecting stack is located at the rear of the right-hand room of the original cottage. The 19th-century extension is set back from the main block.
The front facade of the original section displays a symmetrical arrangement of two windows, which are late 19th or early 20th-century casements with glazing bars. A central 4-panel door provides access. Inside the right-hand room, there is a large fireplace and a reused cross beam from the 16th century. This beam has a new oak section scarfed onto the front, pegged together, and given a chamfered underside with run-out stops. The roof is constructed with A-frame trusses, joined with pegged lap joints. The cottage was formerly known as Smithwright Cottage until around 1930.
