Description

Pyrnham is a house dating from the early 18th century, with some alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed and squared Ham Hill stone and limestone rubble, topped with a plain tile roof that has a brick stack positioned towards the front. The rear gable end features stepped stone coping and another brick stack. The house has a three-unit plan that is positioned at a right angle to the church steps, with an entrance and through-passage leading to the adjacent house, No. 17.

The exterior is two storeys high, with a one-window range on the front and a three-window range on the right return, which faces west. The front windows are set in forward frames, with 8/8 panes on the first floor and 10/10 panes on the ground floor, which features an architrave made of stone jambs and a matching wooden lintel, likely part of an early 19th-century shopfront. The first floor of the right return has 20th-century chamfered stone mullioned windows on the right and metal-framed windows on the left. The ground floor includes a 20th-century French window that has been inserted into the architrave of a former mullioned window, along with a four-light mullioned window to the right.

Inside, there is a large stack on the internal wall that shows signs of having had open fireplaces on both sides. The front room has a stone-flagged floor, and each ground-floor room features a chamfered cross-beam, with an open fireplace in the rear room. Alterations from around 1850 include a staircase with stick balusters and turned newels, a stair window in the right return with coloured margin panes, and four-panel doors.

Additionally, there is an attached wall made of coursed and squared limestone, approximately 2 meters high, with Ham Hill stone coping that encloses the garden to the right (west).
