Description
Two memorial crosses and their enclosing railings are located about 10 meters northwest of the tower of the Church of St Peter. These were created in the late 19th or early 20th century. The iron railings surround one white marble cross and one pink granite cross. The northern cross, made of white marble, honors Major General John Spurway, who died in 1903, featuring a ceremonial sword and medals carved in relief on its base. The southern cross is made of pink granite and commemorates John Spurway, who died in 1874. The crosses are enclosed by a single twisted rail supported by iron corner standards with cross finials and stone bases. The Spurway family has been connected to Oakford parish and held a manorial title in the area for over 700 years.
