Description
The gates and standards at the north east entrance to the churchyard of St Michael's Church date from the late 19th century and are made of cast and wrought iron. The structure includes a carriage gate flanked by a pedestrian gate. There are four plain cylindrical cast iron standards, three of which have finials, and they are inscribed with 'C Davey and Sons, Bampton.' The gates feature a curved top rail leading to a low center and trefoil bracing, with verticals arranged in three rows; the center section is doubled and the bottom section is tripled. These gates were likely installed to prevent livestock from entering the churchyard and are part of a set of three that remain in place.
