Description
The gates and standards at the north west entrance to the churchyard of St Michael's Church date from the late 19th century and are made of cast and wrought iron. The structure features a carriage gate flanked by a pedestrian gate, along with enclosing railings that surround the swing of the smaller gate. There are five plain cylindrical cast iron standards inscribed with 'C Davey and Sons Bampton', each topped with finials. The gates have a curved top that descends to a low center, with trefoil bracing. The verticals are arranged in three rows, with the center section doubled and the bottom section tripled. These gates, likely intended to keep livestock out of the churchyard, are in excellent original condition and are one pair of a set of three that remain in place.
