Description
The raised pavement, steps, ramps, and attached conduit on the west side of Hen Street in Bradninch are likely from the 18th and 19th centuries, although they may have earlier origins. The structure features a stone rubble revetment with dressed stone coping and steps, while the surface is cobbled, with some areas replaced by concrete setts. The raised pavement extends for about 100 meters along the west side of the street and includes a stream conduit, as well as steps and ramps leading down to the lower street level. Despite the visible masonry possibly dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, the original construction of the raised pavement is likely older, and it plays an important role in the townscape of Bradninch.
