Description

The gateway arch, dating from the late 16th century, is set into a garden wall located 20 metres south-west of Dunsmore Farmhouse. It is constructed from coursed volcanic trap and features a single round-headed archway. The arch has composite moulding, with capitals that display a cyma recta design. The jambs are adorned with a step stop and a bar, and there is an incised six-petalled device within a roundel. A hood mould is present above the arch, and flat coping stones complete the structure. Notably, the arch is not bonded into the adjacent wall, which is also made of coursed volcanic trap and has a pantiled roof.
