Description
This is a barn located approximately 30 metres south-west of Moor Farmhouse, dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed from volcanic rubble with brick dressings and has a slate roof. The barn features cow stalls beneath and faces the farmyard and the house to the north-east.
The front of the barn is symmetrical, with the ground floor consisting of three central segmental-headed openings for cow stalls, flanked by narrower doorways and another cow stall opening at the right end; the left end is blocked by farm buildings. All openings have segmental heads with brick voussoirs. At the first floor level, there are massive barn doors on either side of a circular pitching eye. To the right of centre, a flight of external stone stairs leads up to the first floor.
The low-pitch slate roof is hipped at both ends and projects forward on raking timber struts to create a hood over the barn doors. The barn floor is supported by a large axial beam, with several lengths propped by wooden and iron posts, and close-set joists that are strengthened by cross-braces. The roof consists of nine bays with king post trusses. Additionally, there is a massive rubble-built post located about 8 metres behind the barn, which remains from a demolished engine-house.
