Description

SAMPFORD PEVERELL LOWER TOWN (north side) ST 01 SW Sampford Peverell 8/154 No. 10, Challis House - GV II House. Early C19. Plastered stone rubble; stone rubble or brick stacks topped with C19 brick; slate roof. Plan: double depth plan house facing onto the road to the south-east. There is a front and back room either side of the central entrance hall and staircase. The rooms are heated by gable-end stacks. 2 storeys. Exterior: symmetrical 3-window front arranged around a central doorway which contains a 4-panel door, overlight, panelled reveals and doorcase with moulded entablature. There is a 12-pane sash above and the outer bays contain 16-pane sashes. The front plaster is lightly incised as ashlar. Plain deep eaves and roof is gable-ended. Interior: not inspected although it is thought to contain a good deal of original joinery and other detail.
