Description

Nos. 1, 2, and 3 Whites Cottages are three small cottages located in Morchard Bishop, likely built in the late 18th to early 19th century. They are constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with rubble or cob stacks topped by plastered brick chimney shafts. The roofs are slate and corrugated iron, although they were originally thatched.

These cottages face south and form the left end of a row of terraced cottages. No. 1, at the left end, features a projecting end stack. The central cottage, No. 2, has a left end stack that shares a party wall with No. 1, while No. 3 has a rear lateral stack. No. 2 adjoins The Forge to the east. Each cottage has a two-window front, with most windows being late 19th to early 20th century casements that include glazing bars, except for a 20th-century 16-pane sash window on the ground floor of No. 2. No. 1 has a plank door on the left side, while Nos. 2 and 3 have plank doors on the right. Notably, No. 3 is slightly recessed from the frontages of Nos. 1 and 2.

The interior features are mostly obscured by 20th-century plasterwork, and the fireplaces are blocked. Only No. 2 displays an exposed crossbeam that is plainly chamfered. The roof has not been inspected.
