Description

The Beacon is a cottage that dates from the 19th century or earlier. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with a rear block made of plastered rubble. The building features rubble and brick stacks and is topped with a wheat reed thatched roof. It has an L-shaped layout, with a two-room main block facing southeast and a rear block at right angles behind the left (southwest) end.

The main block has a central stair plan, with the room on the right featuring a lateral stack that projects to the rear, while the room on the left has a projecting end stack. The rear block includes an outside lateral stack. The front of the main block is symmetrical with three windows, which are large pane casements from the 19th and 20th centuries. There are thatch eyebrows over the small first-floor windows. The central door is topped with a 20th-century slated monopitch hood. Inside the rear block, there is a 19th-century small two-light mullioned casement with eight rectangular leaded panes per light on the first floor. The interior features plain carpentry details.
