Description

Shoplands is a cottage with a 17th-century core, significantly altered in the late 19th century. It is constructed of plastered brick, with brick stacks and a thatched roof. The building is L-shaped, consisting of a main block facing southwest, which connects with Staddlestones to the northwest, and a rear block behind the right end. Axial stacks are present in each block. The front of the cottage has a regular arrangement of four windows, featuring late 19th-century 2-light timber casements with eight panes per casement. The ground-floor windows are topped with segmental brick arches. A 6-panel front door, with a simple overlight, is centrally positioned to the right. The roof is hipped at the rear. The cottage occupies part of the hall and inner room of a 17th-century house, which was largely rebuilt during the late 19th century.
