Description
East Sellake is a detached cottage dating from the 16th or 17th century, with a rear wing added in 1905. The building is constructed of cob, with some stone, and features a stone plinth and plastered walls under a half-hipped thatched roof, while the wing has a slate roof. Originally, the cottage had a simple two-room layout with end stacks; the left-hand end stack was formerly external and has a bulge for a bake oven, which is made of stone and covered with a corrugated iron roof. The chimney shafts are made of brick. The cottage is two storeys high and has two 20th-century two-light casement windows on the front, with 19th-century windows at the rear. Inside, there are two cross beams, one of which is chamfered and likely tenoned into two jointed crucks, along with double trenched purlins, and the roof space is ceiled.
