Description

This is a late 19th-century lamp post located approximately 2 metres east of the porch of Spencer Cottage in Colebrooke, Coleford. Made of cast iron, the lamp post features an octagonal stem with moulding over an octagonal base. From the top of the stem, two narrow arms extend, supporting a square-sectioned lantern that tapers outward towards the cap. The lamp post is documented in an old photograph of Coleford, which the owner claims is from 1904. The base of the post bears the maker's name, Barton and King, Exeter. It is included for its group value and is situated at the centre of a remarkably unspoilt and picturesque hamlet, illuminating the crossroads.
