Description

These are a pair of late 18th or early 19th century, three-storey red brick houses, numbered 38 and 40, located on Southernhay East. They have parapets and cornices, and number 38 features individual balconies to the first-floor windows. A porch has been added at a later date. Each house has two windows, featuring sash windows with glazing bars. The doorways are plain. The roofs are slate covered. These houses are part of a group that includes numbers 15 to 28, 30 to 36, and 45, 46, and 52, along with the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
