Description

Three Gables comprises three houses dated 1540, located in Cathedral Yard and historically believed to have housed craftsmen working for the cathedral. They consist of three timber-framed buildings, each with a four-storey, one-window façade and a gable. The third-floor windows are splayed oriels supported by brackets, featuring leaded lights. Number 3 has a modern brick ground floor and altered windows above. Number 4 incorporates a modern Tudor-style ground floor and reproduction 17th-century oriels. Number 5 displays an early to mid-19th century shop front and Georgian sash windows within its oriels. The timber framing of the top storey is visible on the side of Number 5. The roofs are slate. Some original internal features remain. The buildings form a group with the other listed buildings of Cathedral Yard and numbers 1 and 2 Deanery Place.
