Description
Two buildings, at 65 and 67 High Street and extending to Cathedral Yard, were originally separate structures that were later joined. The High Street section dates to the early 20th century and is constructed of ashlar in a classical style. It is three storeys high with a raised ground floor. The ground floor is rusticated and features round-headed arcading with inset quarter Tuscan columns. Above this are giant order Corinthian pilasters. There are five windows facing both the High Street and Broadgate, some with pedimented heads. The corner entrance is topped with a cupola. A deep modillion eaves cornice is also present. The Cathedral Yard section, dating to the mid-19th century, is Italianate in style. It was formerly the City Bank and is constructed of ashlar with rusticated detailing on the ground floor and pilasters above. It has five bays, a central entrance with paired columns displaying the city arms above the door, and round-headed sash windows. It is topped with a deep cornice and a hipped slated roof, with a balustraded wall along the frontage. Numbers 65 and 67, along with numbers 70 to 72, form a group, as does the overall Cathedral Close Group.
