Description

These are a pair of red-brick houses, numbers 151 to 155, originally part of a larger development called Baring Place, dating from around 1810. They are joined to a smaller, single-story block, and together they form three storeys. The facade features decorative bands of patent stone and a parapet running along the top. A recessed arcaded design includes round-headed windows on the ground floor, alongside Greek Doric doorways. Each doorway is topped with a large, semi-circular fanlight; the surround to number 155 is missing. The doors themselves are panelled with raised and fielded sections. Sash windows with glazing bars are present throughout. The single-story block at number 155 retains a decorative brick pier and vase at its end. Number 151 has individual iron balconies on its first-floor windows. The roofs are slate. Numbers 143 to 163 (odd) and the front wall of number 147 are considered to be a group of related buildings.
